મૂરખ ન બનશો મારાથી.

મૂરખ ન બનતાં મેં પહેરેલા ચહેરાથી.

હું મહોરાં (માસ્ક) પહેરૂં છું. હજારો મહોરાં!

મહોરા જે ઉતારતા મને બીક લાગે છે.

અને એમાંનો એક પણ મારો ચહેરો નથી!

ઢોંગ કરવો, એ તો મારા ડાબા હાથનો ખેલ છે!

પણ મૂરખ ન બનતા, ભગવાનને ખાતર!

હું એવી છાપ જરૂર પાડું છું કે હું સલામત છું.

અને મારી સાથે બઘું ચકાચક થઇ રહ્યું છે,

અંદર-બહાર મોજેમોજ ચાલે છે

કોન્ફિડન્સ મારી જાત છે, ‘કૂલ’ દેખાવું મારા માટે- રમત વાત છે.

એટલે હું સાગરપેટાળ જેવો શાંત છું,

પરિસ્થિતિ મારા કાબૂમાં છે,

અને મારે કોઇની જરૂર નથી,

એવું દેખાડી શકું છું.

પણ મારી વાત માનશો નહિં !

સપાટી ઉપરથી ભલે હું બેફિકર લાગું,

સપાટી એ મારૂં મહોરૂં છે.

નિત્ય બદલતું અને અડીખમ.

પણ એની નીચે મજબૂતાઇ નથી

એની નીચે છે, મૂંઝવણ, ડર અને એકલતા!

પણ હું એ છુપાવી દઉં છું

મને પસંદ નથી કે કોઇ એ જાણી જાય

હું બહાવરો થઇ જાઉં છું કે મારી નબળાઇઓ ઉઘાડી પડી જશે !

એટલે ઝપાટાબંધ હું એક માસ્ક બનાવી,

એની પાછળ છૂપાઇ જાઉં છું,

અને એ સફાઇદાર આવરણ મને દેખાડો કરવામાં મદદ કરે છે.

અને જે નજર મને પારખી જાય, એની સામે કવચ બને છે.

પણ ખરેખર તો એ જ નજર મારૂં નિર્વાણ છે, મારી આશા છે.

હું જાણું છું કે જો એ દ્રષ્ટિ પાછળ

મારી સ્વીકૃતિ હશે, મારા માટે પ્રેમ હશે,

તો એ જ એકમાત્ર બાબત છે,

જે મને મારાથી મુક્તિ અપાવશે!

એટલે કે મે જાતે જ ચણેલી જેલની દીવાલોમાંથી,

બહુ પીડા વેઠીને મેં બનાવેલી આડશોમાંથી

એ નજર જ એકમાત્ર બાબત છે,

જે મારી જાતને હું ખુદ નથી આપી શકતો,

એવો ભરોસો આપશે-

કે હું પણ કંઇક છું. થોડોક લાયક છું, કશું કરવાને.

પણ હું તમને આ કહેતો નથી

મારી હિંમત નથી, મને ડર લાગે છે.

મને ગભરાટ છે કે તમારી નજર પાછળ મારો સ્વીકાર નહીં હોય,

અને એના પછી પ્રેમ પણ નહીં.

મને સંકોચ છે કે તમે મને ઉતરતો માની લેશો.

તમે મારા પર હસશો,

અને એ હાસ્ય મને ચીરી નાખશે !

ખૂબ ઉંડે ઉંડેથી હું કશું જ નથી એ હું જાણું છું.

અને મને બીક છે કે તમે ય એ જાણશો પછી મને- તરછોડી દેશો!

એટલે હું રમત રમું છું. મારી અનિવાર્ય એવી ઢોંગ કરવાની રમત.

જેમાં બહાર છે આત્મવિશ્વાસની ઓળખ.

અને અંદર છે થરથરતું બાળક!

એટલે જીંદગી બને છે ચળકતા પણ ખાલીખમ મહોરાઓની પરેડ.

એમ તો હું તમારી સાથે મસ્તીથી ઘણી વાતો કરૂં છું.

એ બઘું જ તમને હું કહું છું, જેમાં આમ તો કશું જ કહેવાનું નથી.

અને એ નથી કહેતો, જેમાં બઘું કહેવા જેવું હોય છે.

એ કે મારી અંદર શું રડી રહ્યું છે.

એટલે જયારે હું મારા રોજીંદા કામકાજમાં વ્યસ્ત હોઉં

ત્યારે હું જે બોલતો હોઉં, તેનાથી ભરમાતા નહીં!

પણ પ્લીઝ, ઘ્યાનથી એ સાંભળવા પ્રયત્ન કરજો,

જે હું કહેતો નથી!

એ જ કહેવાની ત્રેવડ મારામાં હોય, એવું હું ઇચ્છુ.

મારૂં અસ્તિત્વ ટકાવવા જે કહેવું મારા માટે જરૂરી પણ છે.

પણ જે હું કહી શકતો નથી.

મને છુપાવવું ગમતું નથી.

મને તકલાદી બનાવટી ખેલ ખેલવા ગમતા નથી.

હું સાચો, વિચારવાયુ વિનાનો બનવા માંગુ છું.

હું હું બનવા માંગુ છું, જેન્યુઇન અને સ્પોન્ટેનિયસ.

પણ તમારે મને મદદ કરવી પડશે.

તમારે મારો હાથ પકડવો પડશે.

ભલે ને, એવું કરવું એ મને છેલ્લો વિકલ્પ લાગતો હોય.

તમે જ લૂછી શકશો મારા આંસુઓ.

અને મારા મુર્દા બનેલા શ્વાસો તથા ખાલીપા ભરેલી નજર,

તમે જ કરી શકો મને સજીવન.

જયારે તમે હેતાળ, મૃદુ અને પ્રોત્સાહક હો છો.

જયારે જયારે તમે એટલે મારી વાત સમજવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો છે,

કારણ તે તમે ખરેખર મારી કાળજી લેતા હો છો.

મારા હૃદયને ફૂટે છે પાંખો!

બહુ કોમળ, બહુ નાની.

પણ પાંખો!

તમારામાં એ શક્તિ છે, જેનો સ્પર્શ લાગણીભીનો છે.

તમે મારામાં પ્રાણ ફુંકી શકો છો.

હું એ જણાવવા માંગુ છું.

એ કે તમે મારા માટે કેટલા મહત્વના છો.

તમે પણ સર્જક બની શકો, પ્રભુ પ્રત્યે પ્રામાણિક એવા સર્જનહાર.

જો તમે ચાહો તો,

મારામાં છુપાયેલા વ્યકિતત્વના.

તમે જ એકલા તોડી શકશો એ દીવાલ,

જેની પાછળ હું ધ્રુજું છું.

તમે ઉતારી શકશો મારા મહોરાં

તમે જ મને મુક્ત કરી શકશો મારા ભયના પડછાયામાંથી.

મારી એકાંત કેદમાંથી.

જો તમે ચાહો તો, પ્લીઝ.

મારી બાજુમાંથી પસાર ન થઇ જતા

એ તમારા માટે સહેલું  નહિ  હોય.

નકામા હોવાનો કાયમી અહેસાસ પાક્કી ભીંતો ચણી દે છે.

તમે જેમ મારી નજીક આવવાની કોશિશ કરશો,

એમ હું કદાચ પ્રતિભાવમાં પ્રતિકાર કરૂં.

એ અતાર્કિક હશે, પણ ભલે બધી કિતાબો માણસજાત વિશે ગમે તે કહે,

ઘણી વાર હું ગળે ન ઉતરે એમ વર્તુ છું.

હું જેને માટે વલખાં મારૂં છું, તેની સામે જ લડું પણ છું.

પણ મને કહેવામાં આવ્યું છે કે

પ્રેમ ભીંતો કરતાં વઘુ મજબૂત હોય છે.

અને એમાં મારી આશા લટકેલી છે.

પ્લીઝ પેલી ભીંતો તોડો.

દ્દઢ છતાં માયાળુ હાથોથી,

એ ભૂલકાં માટે જે બહુ સંવેદનશીલ છે.

હું કોણ છું? તમને અચરજ થતું હશે

હું એ છું જેને તમે ખૂબ સારી રીતે જાણો છો.

હું એ પ્રત્યેક પુરૂષ છું, જેને તમે મળો છો!
